A Path Toward Precision

Dr. Brannan’s interest in both science and craftsmanship developed long before he became a surgeon. As a child, he learned sewing, needlepoint, and crochet from his mother and grandmother—fine handwork that would later feel surprisingly familiar in surgery.

He attended Davidson College and earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He was ultimately drawn to ophthalmology and oculofacial plastic surgery because the field combines detailed anatomy, precise surgery, reconstruction, function, and aesthetics.

Specialized Fellowship Training

Following ophthalmology residency at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Brannan completed a highly selective two-year fellowship in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery and orbital diseases. His training combined high-volume academic experience and evolving techniques with a deliberate, methodical approach and exacting expectations for surgical results.

Academic Medicine & Teaching

Before private practice, Dr. Brannan served as a full-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and as Director of the Ophthalmology Residents’ Clinic for five years. He is board certified in ophthalmology and has continued to participate in clinical education.

Experience That Changes How You See a Problem

Over more than two decades of surgical practice, Dr. Brannan’s work has increasingly concentrated on the eyelids and surrounding facial structures. Skin cancer treatment and reconstruction have been a particularly significant part of that experience. Extensive work with dermatologists and Mohs surgeons has shaped how he thinks about tissue movement, eyelid support, scar placement, facial contours, function, and appearance.

A Different Surgical Experience

Most surgery is performed right here in our office.

The great majority of Dr. Brannan’s surgical procedures are performed in the office rather than routinely requiring patients to travel to a separate surgical facility. When a particular procedure or patient’s medical circumstances are better suited to another setting, Dr. Brannan recommends the appropriate facility.

What Patients Can Expect

Listen carefully.Your concerns and goals come first.
Diagnose accurately.Similar-looking eyelid problems may have very different causes.
Personalize thoughtfully.Treatment is based on your anatomy, diagnosis, priorities, and circumstances.
Treat meticulously.Careful planning and attention to detail continue through surgery and recovery.

The goal is not to perform more surgery. It is to recommend the right treatment and perform it exceptionally well.
